Former Program – FBI Adopt-A-School

The City of Jeannette Police Department had joined the FBI in the Fall of 2007 to go into the Jeannette Sr High School for a 9 week program geared towards the Freshman Class. Subjects covered during the 9 weeks were Search and Seizure, Bully Prevention, Police K-9 Presentation, Vehicle Search’s, Traffic Stops, DUI Investigations, and Drug Investigations.

Former Program: D.A.R.E. Program

The City of Jeannette Police Department had provided the D.A.R.E. program for all 5th grade students within the City of Jeannette School District since 1997 and Cpl Rivardo has been the D.A.R.E. instructor since that time. To learn more about the D.A.R.E. program you can go to www.dare.com.

Click It or Ticket Program

The City of Jeannette Police Department joined with BUCKLE UP PA in 2004. BUCKLE UP PA is a project funded through the PA Department of Transportation dedicated to raising the seat belt usage level in Pennsylvania through increased enforcement, public awareness and education. The partnership is comprised of municipal police departments, Pennsylvania State Police, Penn Dot, the US Department of Transportation and community groups and organizations.

Westmoreland County Drug Task Force

Five Members of the Jeannette Police Department are members of the County Drug Task Force that is operated by the PA Attorney General’s Office. Officer’s conduct drug investigations both in the City of Jeannette and throughout Westmoreland County. The Drug Task Force is funded by the PA Attorney General’s Office.

Jeannette Police K-9 Program – previous program

The Jeannette Police Department started a K-9 program in August of 2005. Ptlm Justin Scalzo was chosen as the K-9 handler for the Department and was teamed with K-9 Wando. K-9 Wando is a German Sheperd who was born in February of 2004 in the Czech Republic. K-9 Wando lived in the Czech Republic until he was 14 months old, he then was shipped over to the United States to a Kennel in Sharon, Pennsylvania. K-9 Wando was purchased from Shallow Creek Kennels by the Jeannette Police Department in August of 2005 (Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office provided the funding to purchase Wando), and was then partnered with Ptlm Scalzo. Ptlm Scalzo and K-9 Wando attended 11 weeks of K-9 training at Strategic K-9 Training in North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania under Master Trainer William Sombo. K-9 Wando was a dual purpose K-9 and was Certified in Patrol and Narcotic Detection.
