Progress continues toward remediation and development of the former Jeannette Glass Site. The property owned by the Westmoreland County Industrial Development Corporation (WCIDC) is being assessed and prepared for remediation efforts. The WCIDC has contracted with KU Resources of Duquesne, PA to begin those efforts. We have received formal notice from KU Resources that they have begun the initial stages of preparation, including sending Notice of Intent to Remediate to the PA DEP. Official details are listed below:
On Saturday, March 18, 2017, a legal notice appeared in the Tribune Review as summarized: Pursuant to Land Recycling and Environmental Remediation Standards Act, notice is given that KU Resources, on behalf of the WCIDC, as remediator and current owner, has submitted to the PA DEP a Notice of Intent to Remediate the former Jeannette Glass Plant. The glass manufacturing process historically used hazardous constituents and petroleum products, and the NIR states that the property contains arsenic, lead and PCBs; and that residential and hazardous waste were stored on the site. The WCIDC and KU Resources have indicated the property will be addressed in accordance with PA DEP specifications for both soil and groundwater. Prior story from the Tribune Review can be found here: http://triblive.com/local/westmoreland/11920825-74/jeannette-site-county City-wide street sweeping begins next week. Each neighborhood will have their streets swept during their regular trash pick up day. Next week, April 3 - April 7, the street sweeper will run on the EVEN side of each road, as determined by your house number. Please move your vehicle to an off-street location or to the ODD side of the roadway. The following week, April 10 - April 14, the street sweeper will run on the ODD side of each road.
If your street only has parking on one side only, DO NOT move your vehicle in to an illegal parking location. You must move your vehicle to an off-street location. Please assist the City by notifying neighbors, friends and family. We strive to provide an enhanced level of service and improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods. Your cooperation in spreading the word and assistance in moving vehicles off the roadways will go a long way toward a successful street sweeping program. We hope to create a smooth process and intend on replicating this program annually during the Spring and Fall months The City has a new site to make payments for Taxes and Sanitation bills.
